LAUNDRY OWNER GETS RELIEF FROM THE HIGH COST OF ENERGY
LAUNDRY OWNER GETS RELIEF FROM THE HIGH COST OF ENERGY
Hy Seng, owner of two coin laundry businesses in
San Bernardino
County, was tired of seeing part of his profits go down the drain every month. The long hours of operation were convenient to his customers, but sent power bills soaring. Seng typically wrote checks to the power company for at least $800 at each location.
That changed after Seng took advantage of the Energy Savers Program offered by the Small Business Energy Alliance (SBEA). The Energy Savers Program, funded by
California rate payers under the California Public Utilities Commission, paid for half the cost of lighting retrofits.
After a lighting retrofit in one laundry, a 1,400 square foot space with 62 machines, Seng saw an immediate reduction of $100 on his monthly utility bill. He called the SBEA once again and made arrangements for lighting retrofits in his larger coin laundry business. Seng saw even greater savings at the 2,000 square foot space with 73 machines.
In addition to the savings, Seng is pleased with the bright, natural look of the new fluorescent bulbs with electronic ballasts. The lighting is much brighter now. I cant believe what a difference it has made, Seng commented. The electronic ballasts also have the advantage of being quiet and flicker free, unlike their magnetic predecessors.
The Energy Savers Program is available in Southern California in the counties of
Riverside,
Santa Barbara,
San Bernardino,
Ventura and the northern part of
Los Angeles
County. In Northern California, the program is available in
Napa,
Sonoma and
Lake
Counties.
The program includes a no-obligation energy survey worth $250. An SBEA energy surveyor will visit the business premise to give he owner energy-saving recommendations for lighting retrofits, and programmable or smart thermostats.
California laundry owners interested in saving energy and money should call the Energy Savers Hotline at (888) 759
-9800 in Southern California or (800) 881-SBEA in Northern California to arrange for their free, no-obligation energy survey.
The state-sponsored energy efficiency funds are limited, so registration is first-com, first served, so interested small business owners should call immediately to register for the program.
